Where Friends hang out
By Jyoti Kalsi, Gulf News Report

Fans of the serial Friends will recognise it immediately.

The service counter, the neon signage, the bricks and the big orange and green couches are just like those at Central Perk - the favourite meeting place of Rachel, Monica, Joey, Ross, Chandler and Phoebe.

Special treat

But this café is not some make believe set in a New York studio - it is for real and it is right here in Dubai - and it is called, what else, but Central Perk.

Friends fans had a special treat last week when they walked into Central Perk, in Umm Suqueim to find Gunther, the manager of the fictional café, standing behind the counter.

In the serial Gunther has few lines to say - he is just the quiet guy with the bleached hair who makes the coffee and silently pines for Rachel, played by Jennifer Aniston.

Pleasure with Benefits : The Coffee Paradox
Discover the positive and healthy effects that coffee can do for your body

Philadelphia, PA (Jan 1 ) – For centuries, coffee drinking has been an important ritual for millions of people worldwide. There have been numerous published articles and books about caffeine, but not many shine light on the relationship between coffee and health. Dr. Roseane Santos and Dr. Darcy Lima take up the vital task of informing everyone – especially coffee drinkers – that coffee is not just caffeine, but also a healthy drink for all. It’s time to learn more about Coffee: The Revolutionary Drink for Pleasure and Health – from the crop to the cup – in a new book that wages an insightful, fascinating study on what is perhaps history’s greatest beverage.

While most coffee drinkers are fully satisfied when they smell the aroma and drink the delicious taste of coffee, this pleasurable experience automatically becomes a guilty pleasure once the drinker starts thinking about caffeine’s negative effects to the human body. This book shows that coffee is not only caffeine and is rich in antioxidants, minerals and vitamins, amongst other chemicals and masterfully retraces the colorful history of coffee, providing a definitive guide to coffee pleasure – from start to finish.

Did you know that drinking coffee regularly protects against many diseases? Did you know that drinking coffee regularly can save lives in coffee producing and consuming countries? Did you know that when you drive you should drink only but coffee? In this book, Dr. Santos and Dr. Lima, in a very authoritative approach, show that the plant coffee is not only natural but a healthy drink. They defend the hypothesis that if every youth in America, Europe and Asia start drinking a cup of coffee with milk instead of artificial beverages (sodas, energetics, Colas, etc) they will be more alert, increase memory capacity, strength thinking and mood, not to mention the calories that will be cut off and the prevention of diseases such as obesity and diabetes that has been growing within this range of age. Wait there is more. The authors state that if every adult could replace one drink a day of alcoholic beverages such as spirits, wine or beer for a cup of coffee, he will be helping to save more lives, including his own, by preventing diseases such as depression/suicide, alcoholism/cirrhosis, Parkinson/ Alzheimer's disease as well as cancer. All these brand news are known as the Coffee Paradox as it is far more important than the French Paradox. Order a copy now through Xlibris.com.

About the Authors: Roseane M. Santos got her PhD at Buffalo State University. She now runs a research unit on Coffee & Health at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, South University in Savannah, GA and Dr. Darcy R. Lima, MD got his PhD in Medicine at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital (1123 AD) from London University and did a Post-Doc on History of Medicine as well. He currently is involved into many clinical and epidemiological studies of coffee all over the world such as the Coffee Heart Study and the Project Coffee and Milk at Schools Breakfast being implemented into Brazil and most Central and Latin America countries.
